We're looking for new Artistic Directors!

Pint-Sized is looking for new leadership - all the details are below.

A smaller print version of this callout is available here, and an audio version is available here.

DEADLINE: Friday 5th June, 5pm.

Hello everyone! We hope you are all well.

Firstly, sorry for the radio silence. Like a lot of people, the pandemic changed a lot of things for both of us, and we haven't had the space to make Pint-Sized work over the last two years. We’re finally coming to the surface and it’s great to see so many friendly faces back making brilliant theatre.

Secondly, our news: after 5 + 2 Covid years it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to take a step back from Pint-Sized. This is not only so we can focus on our other projects and lives, but also because we feel that it could benefit from some fresh blood and new energy and we’re excited about the idea of seeing what others can do with the company.

We are therefore on the lookout for some new artistic directors of Pint-Sized!

Here’s some info:

  • We are looking for 2-3 people to essentially hand over the company to.

    • We’ll have a chat with you about how we saw Pint-Sized, what we believe the ethos has been - but then it’s pretty much up to you how you would like to take it forward.

  • All our funding has always been project-based, so we've never had a salary, and sadly we can't offer one to whoever comes next.

    • We did Pint-Sized around other work and haven't had the space to grow the company's core funding.

    • Once we've talked about your vision for the company, we can support you with ideas about how to fund that, and will really happily read grant applications if you'd like us to.

  • We'll give you the bank account, passwords to everything, and then you can change them and we'll be out of your way.

    • We'll ask that you keep a credit for us somewhere as founders, give us a ticket when you have a show, and if you decide one day you want a board of trustees, we'd appreciate being asked to be on it.

  • We will always be on the other end of the phone for help and advice if needed, but that's up to you - you'll want the space to make the company your own, and we want it to be yours.

We think you'll probably be:

  • Interested in championing emerging talent

  • Passionate about inclusion and access

  • Someone who likes a night at the theatre to be fun

Here’s how to get in touch:

  • Please send a message to pintsizedplays@gmail.com by Friday 3rd June at 5pm letting us know a bit about yourself and what you would like to do with Pint-Sized.

    • That could be anything that helps emerging writers - new-writing nights, workshops, or anything else.

    • It could be similar to what we've done before, or something totally new - whatever your Pint-Sized would be.

    • You could apply together as a team, or by yourself and we might suggest pairing you up with someone.

  • How you talk to us is up to you - you can write a message, send us a voice note or a video, or express yourself however you like.

    • If you could keep all content to less than 5 minutes or 600 words then that would be great - but that's a rough guide, so please don't take up time editing the word count down.

  • We’ll then get back to you and let you know if we’d like to have a further chat with you about your ideas.

  • We're happy to talk to anyone about the company or how to apply at any point - so if you want to drop us a quick line at the address above, we're here to help.

Who should apply?

  • You should. No matter who you are, whether you feel like an artistic director or not, we’d love to hear from you.

  • We didn't know what we were doing to start, and we don't expect you to either. You just need to care about writers, about helping to make change, and about having a great time while doing it.

We think it would be good if you liked artists, audiences and theatre makers.

We do, and because of it, we had the best time.

We'd just like to take this moment to thank all the amazing people who have worked with us, sent work in or come to our shows - you have no idea how much it means to us to have had your support. It’s been a real blast, and you've given the company such a brilliant start; thank you!

Much love,

Matt and Nick x
